No soy hispano, pero he pasado un tiempo en América Latina para conocer diferentes culturas.

¿Eres tú/vos?

¡Excelente!

Solo he visitado algunas islas en las que he estado principalmente en el continente durante mi tiempo allí.

If you're not Hispanic, but are speaking Spanish, would that be considered cultural appropriation? Like when someone wears an article of clothing that is worn by a different culture and they write some stupid-ass outraged internet article about it.

Cuidado, el mundo está loco hoy.

reply

It could be cultural appropriation but I had to eat and understand what was going on around me at the time.

Don't start me on all the cool outfits I've bought on my travels Moonglum. I'd be lynched for sure!

El mundo siempre ha sido igual, somos locos por no darnos cuenta.

Some people just like to find things to get outraged about, I guess.

If I am spanish, is it cultural appropriation for me to speak english? 🤨

No, I think one can only be accused of cultural appropriation if they are American and white. Otherwise, it's just a homage.

Well the confusion is understandable. I don’t understand any of that nonsense about what is right or wrong to say and do without offending someone or other. We’ve entered what I like to call The Age of Indignation.

Well book wise, I just discovered an author named Abraham Merritt who is a bit similar to Lovecraft. If you like that kind of story, he’s got some kick ass shit that I’ve read so far. When I’m bored at work and not perusing moviechat, I go to Project Gutenberg and check for any interesting stuff that I hadn’t come across . It’s all literature that is 75 years or older because it’s public domain and is free to download and read. I’ve come across a lot of stuff I never would have found other wise

Lol, sorry about that. All of the stuff of his that I've come across is pretty much good like that. My favorites that I've read so far are The Ship of Ishtar, The Dwellers in the Mirage, and the awesomely Lovecraftian short story, The People of the Pit. But really, everything has been excellent by him that I've read. This is where I found most of his stuff for free download in Project Gutenberg Australia:

I hereby grant you (MIcheganJFrogg) permission to eat ribs, fried chicken, and watermelon wedges (the real Georgia seeded melons not that sterile shit they sell in the supermarket) if you grant me permission to eat Mexican and Puerto Rican food. In doing so, we agree to not point fingers at each other and yell "cultural appropriation!!!"

What, you don't like haggis? Tell me that sheep's intestines and other organs and offal stuffed into the sheep's stomach and boiled doesn't sound tempting..

OTOH, I had Beef Stroganoff about 40 years ago at a fine restaurant that was OUTSTANDING. I don't know if that is a representative dish of the cuisine but every once in a while I think about getting a recipe and trying it.

Never tried those! I can tell you the old military MREs (1970s) were brutal, and I'll eat just about anything, but I hear the freeze dried meals these days are pretty good.

Since I posted that, I checked about some Stroganoff recipes. Pretty simple and if you like sour cream, onions, and mushrooms (and beef) you'll enjoy it.

The one time I had it the beef must have been slow cooked because it had a pot roast fall apart texture to it. A lot of recipes these days are of the "30 minute" variety but if you decide to make it, do a slow cook version and use wide noodles like egg noodles.
