Who would be a good Harry Powell in a remake?

I can see Johnny Depp giving a different but equally creepy approach to the character of Powell. The rest of the cast would have to be pretty low-budget though, because it would be very expensive and difficult to cast Depp for a film like this. I remember Depp's performance in Secret Window, another fairly low-budget horror movie with no other huge actors, and he was very creepy in that too. There are a lot of people who could play the part of Powell and maybe be even more menacing than Mitchum, not that Mitchum was even close to bad. What do you all think?

Ted Cruz is the obvious answer here.

I love this old movie, it scared the hell out of me as a little kid, there are adults like this?
That being said, let's flip the script here and think outside the box:
How about we consider an all African-American cast. I don't mean turn it into an exploitation movie or anything like that but keep it dark and suspenseful. Just think, we get a handsome, imposing black man as Powell, someone that women find attractive and we put him in the role of the conniving, sinister Powell. I'm thinking Jamie Foxx or Will Smith or even Gerald Johnson, he's a big dude like Mitchum was. He can use charm as a weapon on a now single mom who is very unstable and vulnerable after her husband's death. It would go so against type for any one of those guys and would confuse and unnerve the audience because they would hope he would turn out to be a good guy but no, he's rotten and psychotic through and through. I can see this working.

All we have to do is figure out the rest of the cast...

Sam Rockwell or Robert Downey Jr.

I hope they don't do a remake. But...Jeffrey Dean Morgan or Jon Hamm would be great.
