In the film, which is based on a true story, the two kidnapped men finally get their chance, and jump Myers. While they are fighting, the Mexican police show up and arrest Myers; the two hostages are safe.

In the real life incident, the Hitch-Hiker (Billy Cook) and the two hostages had stopped for food and gas in a Mexican town. A Mexican police chief recognized Cook, calmly walked up to the car he was sitting in, and arrested him without incident. Cook was tried, found guily of mass murder, and was executed.

Thanks for posting this.

Movie came on late last night (like 1:30 am) on CHCH here in Canada.

I tried my best to stay up to watch it. It seemed to be a rarity of
gritty realism in that era of film!

The two guys convince the hitchhiker to give up his wicked ways, and he turns himself in. While in prison, he studies law and gets his degree. After he is released, he legally changes his name and gets a job in the Los Angeles district attorney's office.

Then goes on to lose every case.
