Jane's Hair and wardrobe as opposed to Marilyn's

Did anyone else notice in this movie that it was almost as if they intended to make sure Jane looked less beautiful than Marilyn? Jane is gorgeous in all of her movies that I've seen....but in this film they gave her dreadfully unflattering hairstyles and most of her clothes were also unflattering/just boring compared to Marilyn's. Marilyn on the other hand, had fabulous clothes and much better hairstyles. I don't know, personally it kind of annoyed me. Anyone else notice this?

F@#* Martha Stewart. Martha's polishing the brass on the Titanic, it's all going down.

I think it was supposed to show that Marilyn was the (way) more flashy, money obsessed one while Jane didn't care about stuff like that. I think even though her clothes were less flashy, she still had some cute outfits (her dinner dress, her black halter-top jumpsuit in the pool.) I think it was more of a character thing than an actor thing.

I just finished watching the movie last night-yeah they made some of Jane Russell's outfits more masculine in cut but there are some outfits that set off her figure very well.

Yes. Jane was much more gorgeous than Marilyn was, so they tried to dull her looks down to make Marilyn look better.

I actually think that Jane's wardrobe was as nice as Marilyn's
the 1950s had such beautiful fashion!

I think Jane looks wonderful in this movie but let's face it, Fox was giving Marilyn the big buildup, they obviously were going to make this more of a showcase for her than for Jane despite giving her top billing thanks to star seniority and paying her way more than Marilyn. Jane did wear black a lot in this but she looks great in it.

That crossed my mind too.

I loved Jane's black and white checkered jacket with the yellow lapels.

I'm not 100% sure. In the scene where they ruin the private eye's pants, Jane's dress is a glittery off-the-shoulder mermaid sheath, while Marilyn is wearing a jacketed suit with an overtrain in the back - she would have looked frumpy next to her is she had been anyone other than Marilyn Monroe!

Those who study history are doomed to watch others repeat it.

The dresses were all designed by Travilla, reputedly the best of the Hollywood costumiers. MM looked stunning, especially in that beautiful mauve dress, but Jane too never looked less than elegant.
