What was the point of the Hennessey/Hammond 24 hour shadow?


What did they hope to achieve by this? Doesn't strike me as good investigative technique.

They thought Guy killed Miriam. They were watching him 24/7 in case he did anything suspicious.

surely that would only work though if they tailed him on the sly. Being so open about the fact that they'd have a detective with him at all times would only see him make a conscious effort to avoid doing anything suspicious

Hitchcock didn't think much of police. I mean, in Vertigo, Jimmy Stewart went nearly the whole movie not recognizing Kim Novak, some he had fallen in love with.
