The Face to Face Episode

So because Fred and Ethel thought Ricky and Lucy were moving out they told Aunt Martha and Uncle Elmo that there was now a vacant apartment for them to move into. So that would mean Fred was at full capacity and since Aunt Martha and Uncle Elmo were set to replace Ricky and Lucy that would mean Fred is still at full capacity. So why would Fred advertise his building on the Face to Face episode? He didn’t have any apartments to rent.

reply

Tenants come and go all the time. Besides, maybe he had a few studio apartments to rent.

reply

Are you kidding? You think Fred would pass up the opportunity to get free advertising? LOL

reply

Fred never passed up an opportunity to make a profit, like when he started hocking "Ricky" souvenirs when he saw how excited the neighbors were about Ricky's new "movie star" status.

reply

But he didn’t have any apartments to rent.

reply

Nominally, he didn't, but who knows if Aunt Martha and Uncle Elmo would have taken the Ricardos' apartment?

I think Fred was so money obsessed he wanted to keep all his options open.

I agree that Fred might have had a problem if many people called in response to his TV advertisement and he had to tell them he had no vacancies.

reply

I never thought of that. But knowing Fred, he probably would have put them on his "waiting list" explaining that his apartments were in high demand!

reply

The building also had the bigger apartment that the Ricardos moved into later so maybe Aunt Martha and Uncle Elmo didn't want the bigger apartment since it cost more per month and that one was available at the time.
