Do You BUY What's Going On?

Strange thread I'm starting, but I'm curious if other viewers BUY what's going on during an
episode, or remain detached, so to speak, and ruminate on the fact that they are watching
talented actors.

For me, I buy the show about 83 percent of the time. In other words, if something is
TOO stagey from, say, the first season, I don't get caught up. But most of the time I'm
buying it and "believe" the characters and what's going on. Part of why this works for me
is I simply don't watch Ball's other shows or movies. They really don't interest me.
Same with the other actors. But they are SO good here, and so convincing, I enjoy them even
with throwaway dialogue. Sincerity on this show just sells it.

This is interesting to me, as there are other sitcoms, old and new, where I don't buy them,
but I'm able to realize how much I enjoy the writing or the laughs.

Lucy and company made the sometimes impossible very believable. Guess this is why
this show is genuine TV art.

I guess I'd have to say that I buy most of Lucy's antics, even the dangerous ones like falling into a vat of starch or falling off a hotel balcony into a palm tree. Really, who could do those things and survive (driving one car hitched to another!) But somehow Lucy sells it and I believe it.

When I think of Lucy falling off the balcony into the palm tree, I envision it only a few feet under. First, that's the
only way she would've survived without serious injury. But also, for her to climb back up sure indicates that the
top branch must've just been under the balcony.

As for the starch, wouldn't it have been so hot that Lucy would've been burned?? Perhaps I'm wrong, but I would
think a vat of starch in a dry cleaner's would NOT be cool and comfortable!

I remember watching a show about Lucille Ball many years ago where they interviewed the few people who were still alive who were involved in the making of I Love Lucy. Every single person interviewed said how nice and funny she was and that she would do anything - and they stressed the word anything - for a laugh!

So I have to say that I believe she did most, if not all, of the antics she was shown doing.

You're right BTW, this show is genuine TV.
