Bensonhurst Bomber ending

Okay, not a major goof to lose sleep over...

But, I always thought the reason Harvey and Ralph were going to fight at Kelsey's Gym was because they were going to get in the ring and have at it. Wouldn't that make sense? We know Harvey must know how to box; he tells George he wants to go home and "punch the bag a little". Plus, in the kitchen scene, Norton is obviously demontrating boxing "pernters" to Ralph; complete with the warning to, "never trust anyone in the ring."

But at the gym Ralph and Harvey both showed up in street clothes, and neither one of them carried gear with them. I mean, what owners of a gym would allow a couple guys in street clothes to start fighting somewhere in their facility?

It just seems that it could have been a great opportunity to see Ralph don some ridiculous boxing trunks, complete with his high-top sneakers he wore in "The Golfer".

Well, maybe Harvey had some equipment at home to exercise to. When they show up at the gym, they probably would rent the stuff from the gym if they got into the ring. But I didn't care for this episode for this reason: Ralph acted like such a jerk to George at the beginning that I don't feel sorry for the trouble he gets into. Maybe if he had been more polite I might've liked the story more.

Yes. Renting the boxing gear sounds plausible; I hadn't thought of that.

And yes, Ralph was pushy with George. It gets to the point where Ed even says, "Stop picking on the little guy".

But as we all know, Ralph has a Big Mouth, and he also feels he's in the right. And when he's in the right, no one pushes him around. (Of course, this attempt at bullying on Ralph's part ends abruptly when he takes one look at Harvey, the King of Bullies.)

But it had one of the funniest lines Ralph ever said (after he was told "My friend Harvey is bigger than me") "I have a friend Shirley who's bigger than you"

reply

Great line. I've often wondered: Did Alice know that Ralph had a friend named Shirley? Was Shirley bigger than Alice?

reply

There should have been a spin off series with this person Shirley

What usually gets a guaranteed laugh is when an unseen female is made out to be rough and tough and we assume she's a somewhat average sized woman and she turns out to look like some overgrown bruiser no want would want to cross.

Any goof is major and this is something I will lose sleep over. Another plot hole found in the Honeymooners
