Whats your favourite scene? *possible spoilers*

For me its either the ending scene on the boat where Mcloud turns the boat sharply and knocks one of Roccos goons off, then the part where Rocco is trying to reason with Mcloud.

I also like the part where somebody is shaving Johnnie Rocco as he's talking.

Finally the discovery of the body of the cop in the mud is brilliantly done.

My final offer here —

Bogart’s brilliant portrayal of what might be defined as practical cowardice:
After taking out two henchmen on deck he scurries to prepare himself for the others. Nothing can make him speak once it’s down to himself and Rocco. His face never betrays the slightest sense that he will buckle a whit come what may. No promise of sharing or having all of the money. Rocco is a killer. Frank knows it. Frank fears being killed. He is totally focussed on getting the drop on that killer. Nary a whisper or false flinch before this is done.

The best thing about all of it is that Bogie looks every bit the same man even after the work of eliminating Rocco is done. No hint of arrogant assurance, no swaggering or anything of the kind. He’s simply at ease with having gotten out alive.

Very well stated. Thank you.

Ah boy… Here I am watching this movie again and, as I should’ve expected, I noted another little tidbit of acting by the brilliant Clair Trevor. Extremely brief, but totally on the mark. No wonder she won an Oscar.

It’s the scene where Rocco is pacing the floor as the storm increases. For a brief moment they cut to Trevor watching Rocco pace. Kay can see that Rocco is frightened. Her expression shows a perfect mixture of bemusement and contempt.

As Rocco continues to pace with a look of worry on his face they cut to Bogart who offers a similar look of bemusement mixed with curiosity. Back to Rocco pacing and again to Trevor at which point Rocco, noticing her staring at him snaps “What's the matter with you?" She coldly responds "Nothing," but you can see that she is entirely alert to his petty cowardice and enjoyed seeing it.

Loved that scene too. The whole movie is just full of great scenes and great acting. The characterizations are just fantastic!

I really enjoy Barrymore's retelling of "The Big One" that ripped up the railroad tracks, left bodies in the mangrove swamps for months afterward, etc. and how that totally rattles Johnny.

same old muse,
couldnt refuse,
other places i went,
wouldnt stay,
find myself returning again,
heart you had on leash,
dragged back to your feet,
where left print,
tempting eyes at legs bone i bring,
