Just noticed 3 things - Hoover, the key, and Prohibition
When the run on the babk and the Building and Loan occurs, George and Mary have just received a bottle of champagne from Bert the cop - even though it's 1932 and it's still the middle of Prohibition. (Uncle Billy is quite drunk at Harry and Ruth's wedding celebration as well. )
As George sees the crowd standing in front of the B&L., he's already fishing for his key. But when he gets uo to the gate he seems surprised that it's closed and locked.
Finally, when Uncle Billy pulls him into the office, there's a picture on the wall behind them. I always thought that this was the dad, Peter Bailey, but the photo of Peter Bailey is on the wall opposite the door, with the inscription underneath it, "All you can take with you is that which you've given away. " That first picture is good ole President Hoover.
Damn, what kinda law and order town is Bert runnin'anyway! Blowing off Prohibition and letting floozies like Violet run wild in the streets?
I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.
