Wally was a hottie !

I thought he was far sexier than debonair Monte or glum Bert, I loved the way he filled out his suits.

Plus he'd be more fun to hang around with.

reply

Wally definitely had sex appeal. I find the “everyman” quality extremely attractive in a fellow.

reply

Yes he is so much more attractive then the other guy. He is beefy not overweight.

reply

My mother adored him. He was her favorite actor.

reply

I agree that Wally was much sexier/hotter than Monte in this film, but I can see why Mildred would be attracted to "debonair Monte" rather than Wally - even from a physical standpoint. Considering that this was a woman who wanted her daughters to study ballet and piano, and hated the fact that her little girl was a tomboy, it makes perfect sense that she would be attracted to Monte's 'gentler', more 'refined' and 'beautiful' version of masculinity - OVER Wally's OBVIOUS, beefy SEX APPEAL. I think that was the whole point of the story actually. :)

It's like a guy being more attracted to the Audrey Hepburn type than Marilyn Monroe.

reply

I like your Hepburn and Monroe comparisons rapture87. It's been so long since I've seen MP. that I don't remember what Monte looked like, unless I knew the name of the actor who played him.

reply

Why thank you. :) The actor who played Monte was Zachary Scott. You can google image him and see. He was lithe and refined looking.

reply

Scott was one of those actors that just didn't stand out, to me. Whenever I think of this movie, all I can think of is Carol Burnett's spoof, "Mildred Fierce", and Harvey Korman playing the villain.

reply

I haven't seen the Carol Burnett spoof. lol. She seemed to enjoy spoofing Joan Crawford though, because she did the same with 'Torch Song' I believe. As for Zachary Scott, I liked him a lot in this, but I think he was the kind of actor that preferred live theatre to film.

reply

Burnett's take on clAssic films, was hilarious, as a matter of fact, her spoof on "Mildred Pierce", made me want to watch the actual film. Though, I can't remember if anybody pkayed the part of Wally in her spoof.

reply

Wow, so you saw the spoof first, before the actual film? lol.

reply

Yes, I did. I saw the Carol Burnett episode when I was a child, and didn't see the film until I was an adult.

reply

Wally?? Surely you jest.

Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar and doesn't.

Lol this is my favorite thread I've read through on this site. I love how we're all passing along movies where he's possibly shirtless or "in shorts"! I had a big crush on him too from this movie. I know he's meant to be a bit sleazy but I've always been attracted to that type of personality, high energy, fast-talking, creative, always jesting or teasing. And unlike Monte, at least he was honest about what he was. I agree with so many others here, if I were Mildred I'd have at the very least entertained his advances. I'm off now to go watch his other movies and find those salacious scenes where he's wearing shorts. Yum.

reply

I thought he was a big doughy dopey doof who obviously only wanted one thing, but what do I know?
