Favorite Line

My favorite line in the film comes toward the beginning when when Stanwyck's editor comes to her small New York flat to tell her about Greenstreet's plan for her to invite Morgan to Christmas dinner at her "farm" to which Stanwyck replies "Farm? I haven't even got a windowbox!" I've seen the film many, many times, yet this line never fails to make me laugh. Anyone else have a favorite line?

Elizabeth is complaining about how Yardley treats her: "Every time I'd open my mouth, he'd talk. I felt like Charlie McCarthy!"

Elizabeth: John, when you're kissing me, don't talk about plumbing.
Sloan: What? Oh, I'm sorry, what should I talk about?

I generally get a good laugh out of how Sloan won't shut up about how great the plumbing, insulation, and everything else is in his house.

Also: didn't you say the baby's name was Robert?  

"Oh, well," said Zanoni, "to pour pure water in the muddy well does but disturb the mud!"

Elizabeth Lane: Suppose you listen to me for a change?... I said listen to me! I'm tired of being pushed around. Tired of being told what to do. Tired of writing your god-darned articles. Tired of dancing to everybody else's tune. Tired of being told whom to marry. In short... I'm tired!

Alexander Yardley: Why, that's strange. He looks different this morning.
Elizabeth Lane: Wouldn't you look different if you'd swallowed a watch?
Alexander Yardley: But he's a blonde, has teeth, and he talks.
Elizabeth Lane: Mr. Yardley, this is no time to take inventory!

I agree when she changes her tone at the end of her little rant and says in a different tone I'm tired it is like she is coming out of character which is the subject of the rant.

Did anyone notice when the cook who gives her the recipes in NYC says his restaurant is around the corner he is making an homage to shop around the corner which he is in.

I'm not going to toss paint on people wearing fur coats, but when Felix says "Nobody needs a mink coat except a mink!"

Stanwyck talking about Sydney Greenstreet doing all the talking makes her feel like Charlie McCarthy.

Any of the dialog between Sakall and Una O'Connor. She's so shrewish, but here it is hysterical.

"Great theater makes you smile. Outstanding theater may make you weep."
