DVD from MGM Hitchcock Premier Collection

Anybody know why The Lifeboat DVD is not released as a single, from the Premier Collection? (The only one that isn't).

I believe that in the set, that DVD contains the extras for the whole set; could that be the reason?

reply

Because Lifeboat was already released on DVD as a single before the boxset came out. I assume it contains the same special features as this version since it was released as a "special edition."

In the set each DVD contains the special features for its movie. The Lifeboat disc from the set only has extras pertaining to Lifeboat.

the dvd i got includes a 50 minute interview from the early 1960's with hitchcock himself, and it's funny how apparently back then it was a wide opinion that thrillers should be shot in black and white, caution though, the ending to many of his movies are revealed as they are on that subject, one of them had the coolest ending, unfortunately as i found out before seeing the actual movie, it also features a very rich diverse commentary track by a hitchcock expert, that is really something to listen at. i sat through this entire movie thinking the leading lady was bette davis, so the only actor i actually recognised was hume cronyn and later in the credits notice henry hull from dr jekyll and mr hyde. i first saw this movie as a teenage boob and loved it and saw it again now and was glued once more, they are really right in saying this seem to be an underrated hitchock flick, and it's funny how it doesn't feel like an old movie, perhaps cause the setting is so basic, just people in a lifeboat the entire time.

I can understand how you could mistake Tallulah Bankhead for Bette Davis. In certain films from the 40s and 50s, they do sort of resemble each other if you squint. Bankhead was great in this!

I like this movie.
I remember watching it in a communications class in college years ago. I don't remember how it related to the class, but I remember the movie. I think I'll buy the DVD soon.

I waited so many years and I finally did get it last year! It seems they never play this one on TV. Of course, we haven't had cable in many years now, but I haven't found it on any of the streaming channels. I got tired of looking and waiting, so I decided to just buy it. I'm glad I did.
I was very young when I first saw it. It had so many twists and turns. My kind of movie!
