A Remake?

I really enjoy this movie and I think it would make a great remake with changing it due to time. I think the movie could work really well! My question is who do you want to play the parts?

James Franco & Seth Rogen as the newly married couple. Jonah Hill plays the crazy brother who thinks he's former president Bill Clinton. Thelma & Louise stars Susan Sarandon & Geena Davis will reunite to play the crazy aunts. Michael Shannon as Jonathan, with his sidekick Dr. Hawking, played by Howie Mandel.

Grant always said,it was his least favorite performance and would've done it over if given the chance.Grant thought he was too over the top.
A remake today would benefit from a stage run first, with the same cast considered for the film.

Its become common place to see this question about old movies. Frankly, I dread the remakes ! None of the ones I've seen hold a candle to the originals not to mention that I've become suspicious of whats behind this question and who asks ? Maybe yours is innocent but I suspect that movie makers are putting out 'feelers', shopping for an idea.
The remakes I've seen STINK ON ICE and I'm finding myself double checking movie listings because often its the remake and not the original playing on some movie channel. I'm not sure what the financial angle is for doing this but I'm pretty sure theres a group of movie makers out there looking to cash in on the popularity of the original, making a cheap-o version of it and then making a killing on the remake from cable companies and DVD sales. For example "The Ladykillers' and The Pink Panther'etc. A few times my local TV listings have erroneously said the original would be playing but when the time comes to watch it, nope, its the damn horrible remake. Soon these will be the only movies on cable (IMHO) so you better own the DVD etc

I see that most of the posts on this thread are against a remake of this classic. But sometimes it's just a fun game to speculate about who could play the roles in a remake of a movie. (I posted something similar in a thread about a remake of "Rocky", but not seriously; again, just folks speculating about it.)

So, what about Tom Hanks as Mortimer? I thought of that many years ago when I first saw this. And someone else mentioned Betty White as one of the aunts; that's a great idea! I had also thought of an actor to play Peter Lorre's role, someone that reminded me of him; but now I can't remember who I thought of.

Oh Hanks wouldn't agree to it. He likes to play the hero, nowadays.
