Favorite lines!

1) "Let's have a fire."
"You don't mean an OPEN fire! Mother won't like it."
"As long as I can remember, that fire has never been lit!"
"High time it was then, Lloyd."
[Elliot appears at her elbow, striking a match.]

2) June: "Hi, Dr. Jaquith! Remember me?"
Dr. J: "Who could forget you?"

reply

Oh, one more great one:

Dr. Jaquith: "All right, but remember what it says in the Bible: the Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away."

Charlotte: "How does it feel to be the Lord?"

Dr. J: "Not so very wonderful since the free will bill was passed--too little power!"

That was my favorite line of the movie.

Every time I go on holiday, especially cruises I always say
Can we try to remember we are hardly commercial travellers !!
Too many to mention, but the end has a o be top !

My new favorite is "I thought you came up here to have a nervous breakdown". Hilarious

I'll put the obvious one in here.
"Lets not ask for the moon, we already have the stars."

I love all the lines when she comes back from the cruise, and June is trying to be her usual bratty self, and instead of crumbling, Charlotte just spars right back, and Lisa tells June to just give it up.

Elliot: "Why haven't we met before?"

Charlotte: "The world's a small place, Boston's a big one."

You had to have been a proper Bostonian of that time to appreciate that line.

Dora, I suspect you're a treasure.

reply

"Well I'm NOT going to struggle with you ..."

"That's right, no telling what type of animal instincts that might provoke" (or something to that effect..) -- love the 'veiled' (pun intended..) sexual content that so deftly got by the clueless censors in those days...

When Jerry asks if she is Miss or Mrs and she replies "Aunt, every family has one".

reply

"Can we have a cigarette on it?"

Also, "I put two tablespoons of sherry in her sleeping powder so this shouldn't take long."

"Dora, I suspect you're a treasure."

reply

"My, aren't you full of questions!"

I've adopted that as my go-to response to the persistently nosy.
