Chaney's performance as the Monster

Did anyone else think that Lon Chaney Jr. performance as the monster was pretty dam good,, maybe not quite Karloff,, but certainly good,,

are you going to bark all day little doggie,, or are you going to bite

Physically, Chaney's large, brutish appearance made for an ideal Frankenstein monster. I don't really care that he didn't make grunting or moaning sounds. I enjoyed his performance as the Monster.

He looks good as the monster. I like that that thunderstorm scene where he gets struck by lightning.

Chaney played the part as written and directed, and, in that regard, he did an excellent job. I wish the script - or director - had allowed Chaney to create some real pathos. He had the chops for it. Look at his Lennie in OF MICE AND MEN, or his remarkable run as Lawrence Talbot in THE WOLF MAN series.
