Could this have turned into “Star Wars”?

It would be interesting if there were sequels to Wizard of Oz made in the years shortly after the original film. Like if there were an “Empire Strikes Back” to The Wizard of Oz with another film that sees the continuing adventures of Dorothy in Oz, partially inspired by Baum’s later Oz books but possibly its own story that take the series deeper and possibly even darker. Perhaps Dorothy has to confront the ghost of the Wicked Witch and further learns more about her powers from the Ruby slippers and must save her friends from an evil plot that later reveals something like that The Wicked Witch (Miss Gulch) is Dorothy’s mother like Darth Vader is Luke’s father.
