Is this just a whitefaced The Distinguished Gentleman (1992)?
There are definitely parallels between the two.
What are the parallels? I watched "Mr Smith" for the first time yesterday, and based on the summary of "The Distinguished Gentleman" I'd be very surprised if they were the same story.
"Mr Smith" is not a con man at all, in fact he is probably the opposite of a con man. I don't want give any spoilers beyond this, but honestly I would be very surprised if the makers of "The Distinguished Gentleman" thought of this as a remake of "Mr Smith goes to Washington."
