Solid entry, but...


...the usually reliable Harold Huber almost sinks the whole thing. That’s probably how his role was written, but the director should’ve seen how over-the-top he was and had him dial it down a bit. Sidney Toler is excellent, as usual, and the mystery is good.

I know Harold Huber played comic parts in some of his movies but he definitely was too much in this one. He's very excitable as a Romanian posing as a French detective. I thought I would try him as the Belgian detective Poirot, on radio, after watching this and thankfully he was much more restrained in that role.
