Am I the only one who actually likes Snow White's singing voice?

Okay, so her voice sits VERY high and is also very small and light (intentional, because she's supposed to sound like a fourteen-year-old), but I think she had a beautiful voice. I don't get the hatred for her voice outside of the fact that she sings almost entirely in head voice, which no singers outside of classical music do nowadays.

A STATEMENT IS IRRELEVANT UNLESS IT IS WRITTEN IN CAPS LOCK

No, you're not. It's just very different from what people nowadays would consider a "good" singing voice.

After having the same signature for, what, ten years? I'm not sure what to put here now.

reply

Indeed, it is probably a matter of people not being used to that singing style anymore.
You have to wonder what people will think about our current singing voices in 85 years.

I don't hate her voice either. She is supposed to be a child, isn't she? They have high voices.

Let's be bad guys.

I think her voice is beautiful.

I love it when She sings.

While it isn't my favorite, I quite love her voice. It, like this film, stand the test of time much better than it's detractors would claim.

"If life is getting you down and needs uplifting, then please come dance with me!"

I love her voice, I love how its distinct...you hear it and you know instantly that's Snow White, she can't be mistaken for any other character.

It also fits her sweet and innocent personality, Snow White shouldn't have a 'mature' voice, I know some people think its too 'squeaky' but I think it sounds young enough to be believable that the character is 14 years old.

P.S. I always felt that Aurora by contrast, sounded way too old to be 16 years old (but she was blessed by fairies so maybe that had something to do with it) while another Disney character of the same age...Ariel, sounded much more believable as a teenager.

Just my opinion.

NO OF COURSE NOT. Snow White has one of the best voices out of all the Disney Princesses---or perhaps I should say Adrianna Caselotti :)

Her voice is perfect for the character. So free from vocal fry. expressive, charming. I wish more girls and guys took the kind of voice classes actors took in those days. maybe they don't have to go overboard with the hybrid Brit/US accent of so many movie matrons. Heard a lady on NPR (guys too) who make me turn off the radio.

"So free from vocal fry."

It's refreshing to see old movies from before many young women, and some young men, adopted this annoying vocal affectation. Creaky voice has got to go.
