Claire Trevor

Claire Trevor was nominated for best supporting actress, and her on-screen time was 5 minutes.

So? Beatrice Straight WON the damned Oscar for her 5-minute bit.

reply

Was not aware of that. Thank you for pointing it out, which you could have done in a POLITE manner.

reply

Did she win for the movie "Network"

reply

Yes, and she was absolutely fantastic.

"Sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand."

It was an extremely provocative role for 1937. An 'ill' prostitute was going to get her attention, but probably not a win.

"He sent the rain."
"Who sent the fire?"

That tells you how good she was.

What a performance, the type of brief but beautiful work that the supporting categories were introduced to recognise. We are aware of a lifetime of heartbreak and disappointment from her few minutes on screen.

Nowadays, of course, the supporting category is where studios push co-leads to give them a bigger shot at the win, depriving hard-working character actors at a shot at the Oscar.
