Why do females under 18 hate this film?

It's a masterpiece of cinema, was in the AFI top 100 in 1998, is in the AFI's top 10 epics list, is in the IMDb top 250, and yet, on average, females under 18 rate this 3.4. What gives? I'd have thought the combination of thoughtful drama and good-looking guys would make this a very popular film among the girls. Any thoughts?

EDIT: I just thought I'd add this: Females under 18 rate this 3.4, and they also rate Disaster Movie 3.9. Ok. That means that most females under 18 believe that Disaster Movie is better than All Quiet On The Western Front. Sh!t. I hate people and I love myself, and this just confirms it.

But that's only because the automated teller machineyolatrolamaton isn't working.

What is with all of the ridiculous generalizations on this thread?! It is true that there are quite a few ignorant teenage girls out there (I would know, because I am a teenage girl). However, it is not fair to say that all teenage girls, or females ingeneral, are stupid or have awful taste in films. I personally find it very aggravating and offensive when people make stupid stereotypes about teenage girls. In fact, out of most of the teenagers I know, the girls are smarter, and have better taste in films, books, etc. Obviously this isn't always the case, but then again very few things are always true.

There are women who are not that crazy about classic war films, and that is okay. Just because something is classic doesn't mean that everyone has to enjoy it. I'm sure there are quite a few men out there who don't enjoy watching Gone With the Wind, Casablanca, or Roman Holiday, all of which are classic romances. but just because men don't enjoy them, does not mean that they are stupid or have awful taste. It just means that they enjoy different things. This is why it is incredibly irrational and pig-headed of you people to say that women or teenage girls are dumb or have bad taste in films just because they don't like this one movie.

I also resent the fact that women enjoy films just because they have attractive men in them. There are women guilty of this, but there are also TONS of men who go to awful movies just to watch "hot" girls.

They're females under 18, you moron. Shut up.

The 10 or 15 teenage girls who gave this movie a poor rating are representative
of neither teenage girls nor the female gender in general.
I am astounded by how much misogyny is tolerated in the States, progress already.

It is not a question of if girls under 18 are stupid or not, it is a question about maturity and generation - and gender to be fair.

Forst of all, females generally (note that word) prefer other kind of movies than males - I like war films, horror films, action films... you know, the stereotypical male stuff, and I had to sit and watch with my girlfriend at that time, several so-called chick flicks that she really liked - Mean Girls, Coyote Ugly, Sex and the City - the Movie to just mention a few. Not one of these films were rated above 4 by me, and Sex and the City felt like the Spanish inquisition torture.

Then it comes to age. At a certain age you have certain interests and puberty girls naturally have a greater interest in good-looking guys with their shirts taken off than seeing the inside of someone who just stepped on a mine. This is not really true for puberty boys since they can watch that as well. But give them the chice between a film with bang and boom and a film with boobs and they will have a very hard time choose one. Same same but different.

I think that many people simply have to grow up a little before watching certain films, learn how the world and life works. I wouldn't recommend Ingmar Bergman's Scenes from a Marriage for a 15 year old, because they wouldn't have the experience to draw proper conclusions from it, be them right or wrong or simply personal.

I don't think females are stupid compared to males, just different. And that is why we have such a hard time understanding them.

But I like difficulties. :)

Simple answer = It's a war movie

A:IMDB is hardly a good representative of the world. What a small percentage of females under 18 on here do is nowhere near big enough to represent any kind of average.

B:A lot of teenagers don't like films this old.

C:It's on the Top 250 so some may be bumping it down to get others ahead like a lot of people.

D:It's possible that, you know, some people may not like this movie for legitimate reasons. The AFI's opinion is not infalliable.

I'm thinking that didn't have enough of Barbie and Britney Spears in it to make it a good movie for them.

I'm a 15 year old female, I've read the book and I loved this movie.

I won't deny that the majority of us are skanky Twilight fangirls.

Once again, I find myself having to explain this. It's because of the weighted average formula imdb uses, and the fact that there are so few females under 18 on this site. If you look at the actual voting distribution, it matches quite closely with the rest of the site's demographics. Next time try to consider that before jumping immediately to a stupid conclusion.
