Kara Sevda

Yes, what I'm about to say is shallow and reeks of a 14 year old girl squealing over the latest issue of Tiger Beat magazine, but I just have to say that in the show Kara Sevda, Burak Ozcivit is the best-looking man I've ever seen. Ever. Ever. Ever.

One of the characters in Kara Sevda calls him the eighth wonder of the world. And how!

Ok. I am ready to make the call. Burak Ozcivit is THE greatest romantic lead I've ever witnessed. His performance as Kemal in Kara Sevda is unbelievable. He is sooooo good. I'm pretty bummed out about this though because it's all downhill from here as far as future new shows and new actors are concerned. Nobody will come close to this guy. I've already kicked prior favorite actors to the curb. They know who they are.

I just don't see how it's possible for his female co-stars, especially the ones who play love interests, to not fall in love with the man. There's just no way. If millions of women have fallen in love with him through a screen, then what hope do the women on the set have? I know there are a trillion camera men, boom operators, etc. standing around when scenes are being filmed and the vibe is far from romantic and sexy and the actors who are engaged in these love scenes can't stop giggling because it's like kissing your brother/sister. Yeah yeah, whatever. Blah blah blah. If physiological matters don't start kicking in, then why do so many co-stars fall in love on sets?

If she wishes to avoid such an inevitability, any future female co-star might want to demand that her contract state Mr. Ozcivit must chew on handfuls of raw garlic and possess extensively sweaty body odor immediately before the shooting of close encounters of the romantic kind. These are good choices because smells don't transfer to the screen.

However, I'm not sure this will do it though. I'm not sure anything would work. The man's acting is insane.

Watching this guy do his thing and make it appear so effortless really riles me up, but not at him. I'm starting to believe American and even British actors are phoning it in when they're doing romantic roles. Well, let me take that back. Not all. One only has to see Aidan Turner in the famous stocking scene in Poldark to know he didn't phone that in, but something about that performance doesn't measure up to Burak Ozcivit who is on point 100% of the time. It's all in the face, the look in his eyes, the way those eyes look at Nihan, and all these other minute things that I could list out but no one cares to read a thousand things he does that add up to one great big awesome feat of acting. Good grief he's sooooo good.

Any actor who really wants to know how to do a romantic role to perfection needs to do a freeze frame analysis of Burak Ozcivit's every scene with Nihan in Kara Sevda. It's not all about the romantic scenes either. Even when he's fighting with her (which they do often--you know that thin line between love and hate thing), it's worthy of inspection.

I have to give credit to his co-star who plays Nihan. She is just as good herself especially in scenes that require outpourings of grief and anger. In fact, the whole cast is awesome. Turkey has it going on in the acting department.

I can't resist. I've got to talk about one thing Burak Ozcivit does in Kara Sevda that I don't think I've seen anybody else do as well as he does. He's a face talker. I mean he puts his face right in Nihan's and talks while he's that close in a romantic scene. He also does this touching forehead to forehead thing all the time. It's all these little acting "accessories" that add so much.

Here's a clip of one of his best scenes in my opinion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w62LD3lIXGQ&t=324s Start at 3:45. He's mad, then she's mad. Watch his face while she's yelling at him--the look of simultaneous fear and confusion and not knowing where to look or what to do and fully drunk with pent-up passion and desire for this woman. Watch him exhale in relief right there in her face after the kiss. Watch the face talking. Look at his glistening eyes. Dang. There's nobody better than this guy. I defy any woman to not about burst into flames while watching this.

I should also mention how excellent he is in non-romantic scenes. He's just as good at tense arguments and action scenes when he's going around making Emir's life miserable and headbutting Emir's cronies all in the name of trying to be with the woman he loves and protecting her from all the evil around her.

I think it says a whole lot when I'm completely spellbound by him even though I don't understand most of what he's saying. He communicates so much apart from words. His face tells everything.

Well now you have me very curious to see this guy, LOL!

Is the show in Turkish?

BTW, I'm sorry I never got back to reply properly to your post on The Forsyte Saga board. Life has gotten in the way. I remember it being an excellent, thoughtful post that deserved my full attention, and I didn't have that to spare! Glad to see you posting again, PS :)

Hello, Catbookss! It's so good to see your name in a reply! Please have zero worries about The Forsyte Saga post. We can get back to that in good time!

About Burak Ozcivit. He is without a doubt the most impressive actor I've seen recently. On top of that, he is undeniably gorgeous. Kara Sevda is in Turkish, and there has been no official release of the entire series with English subtitles. However, I still enjoy watching him, and it's a great reason to learn Turkish which I'm trying to do so I can understand better.

You might also want to check him out in Calikusu (Lovebird). It's a period drama set at the end of the Ottoman Empire in the 1920s and is based on the book written in 1922 of the same name. Netflix had this with English subtitles until recently. I hate that they took it away.

Amazon does have a couple of his movies with English subtitles -- To Die For (Can Feda) and My Brother (Kardesim Benim).

To sum it all up, he is a treat to watch. You can find clips of his work on YouTube if you would like a sample.

Again, it's so good to hear from you! :)

...in the show Kara Sevda, Burak Ozcivit is the best-looking man I've ever seen. Ever. Ever. Ever.

I need to retract this statement from my OP. It's not true anymore. It should read as the following:

In the history of all existing matter and space, the universe, the cosmos, whatever you want to call it, Burak Ozcivit is the best-looking man I've ever seen. Ever. Ever. Ever. Case closed. End of story. Wrap it up. No doubt. The search is over. Alert People Magazine for that issue they do every year.

What brought me to this retraction and new statement is a photo of him training on horseback for his new role in Resurrection: Osman. I was close to the decision before seeing this photo, but that picture pushed me over the fence line.
