Like they would have cast some fat tatted up chick wearing corduroy jeans and sporting a crewcut. Of course they cast someone attractive. The real question is, why wasn't the person cast objectively beautiful? Here's why - what modern Hollywood is going for now in female leads is attractive, but not too attractive. They want the female lead to be relatable to the average female moviegoer and obtainable for the average male moviegoer. Diversity is usually a bonus, and in many cases it really works out (e.g. Lovesick), but here they decided to go with the standard blonde. Your description sums her up perfectly - "cute". Not breathtaking, not ugly, but "cute".
