Why Does Generation Z Worship Such Mediocrities?

What have Harry and Meghan *actually* given the world?

I'm no fan of the royal family. They don't mean shit to me, but I find it ironic that so many Harry and Meghan stans so despise the royal family. WTF?!? The inconsistency is astounding.

Would any of us know about this homely, ginger, academic dunce if he wasn't a member of the most famous royal family in the world (i.e. a 'spare'), and would any of us particularly care about a blandly pretty but otherwise unremarkable z-list actress whose only claim to fame was appearing as part of an ensemble cast on a bland, schedule-filler show with a bad pun for its title (i.e. 'Suits') if she wasn't married to a member of the most famous royal family in the world?

And yet there is a whole generation of people, mostly active on Twitter and Tic-Toc, who define themselves by their simping for these overprivileged mediocrities, and judge the rest of us on how we perceive them.

I don't remotely wish Harry and Meghan, far less their children, any ill will. In fact, I wish them the best, and I also hope they are able to mend rifts with their respective families (although something tells me that neither Harry nor Meghan are interested in that, unless it's entirely on their own terms, and they can boost their profiles/egoes in the process), BUT it does anger me (yes, *anger* me) that these talentless nothings are so worshipped by the younger generations, despite giving NOTHING back.

There was a time when we made celebrities out of people who'd actually achieved something. But, alas, it seems that Gen Z is intent on thrusting mediocrity on us by elevating the most worthless, talentless nonentities simply because of what they 'represent'. Pathetic.

Throughout history there are many of people who are "famous for being famous." The Kardashians for example.

I get why people take interest in athletes, rock stars, supermodels, super rich, and movie stars, but I'll never understand the fascination with celebrities that are famous for nothing. As you said, literally no contribution to the world.

You can point to Gen Z and tic-toc, but it's always been that way.

Very true, but it's not so much that people are 'famous for being famous', that bothers me. Like you say, it's always been thus, and the Kardashians are an example. It's that people are now attaching moral value and integrity to Harry and Meghan. I saw someone's Twitter profile which read as follows: "I judge you on where you stand on Harry and Meghan" (🤦‍♂️). People are determining their lives and assessing a stranger's entire character, based entirely on where they stand on these two utterly useless, spoiled, entitled, whining individuals, and as a leftist, anti-racist and pro-feminist, it's upsetting to see that it's mostly self-identifying leftists and anti-racists who are particularly besotted with this couple (never mind that Harry has a history of racism/cultural insensitivity, and that Meghan is a light-skinned biracial woman who supposedly identified as 'Caucasian' until recently, and that Chris Rock, one of the people vocally calling them out, is a dark-skinned Black Man, indeed far darker skinned than Meghan, Will Smith or Jada Pinkett-Smith - funny how all the concerns about colourism, which was a hot-topic issue a couple of years back, has now dissipated of late... 🤔 - maybe if Harry can be treated as an 'honourary' Black man, it's time for Rachel Dolezal to make a return to public life...)
