Rest in power, George Floyd. #BlackLivesMatter

Repost @justiceforgeorgenyc: In the last eleven months we have carried his image on signs & chanted his name in the streets. All in the name of another Black life that mattered.

But the thing about martyrdom is that some times in the whirlwind of a cause we lose sight of the life that sparked it. That before this world saw their faces on signs & heard their names in chants, they were little lives just trying to survive it. That even in their non-magnificence, they mattered nonetheless.

So today as we come out once more, we do so because George’s life mattered. We do so not just for a broader call to action that carries on, but for his humanity. For the life he lost. For his family & friends who’ve had to bear the unimaginable pain of the last eleven months & particularly these past three weeks of trial.

We do so for George.
