wow, what a sellout!

Well he did rename his Neil Young Store The Greedy Hand mid-last year so guess he was dropping a hint: https://neilyoung.warnerrecords.com

Then again back in August he did sign a deal with Amazon as well and defended it in September by saying:

Just wanted to clear up some thoughts I have read that are not really factual, although I can understand what folks might think.

2nd, don’t worry that any of Amazon’s dealings with me compromise ownership or control of my art in any way at all. That does not happen. With Amazon, the releases we give them to be introduced as ‘Amazon Originals’ are a three month exclusive and are all treated very well in the marketplace and get to the largest amount of people possible listening in the quality the music was made in. Some of you may not care about that, but we do care a lot about it.

Quality whether you want it or not!” - L.A. Johnson.

Of course this may be what he needs to do to keep afloat and reinvest in more recordings and such, after all illegal downloading has probably wiped out at least 50% of earnings for musicians over the years.

there seems to be a trend.

I'm going to wait before making a judgment. Who knows what he agreed to. I'm not a copywriter expert, but he might be trying to protect his music upon death. And it's not clear what he will be allowing his music to be used for.
