Legend

No, he’s not well-known, but the very best things in life usually are not. He is a limited actor; but, when properly cast, he can do humor (Maximum Impact) and action (every film he’s been in) in a way that, if you see him once, you never forget him. I think of him as kind of a Dolph Lundgren who did not have the drive to be famous. The 2 men have much in common: totally juice-free, martial arts champions, Norse heritage, big as fuck. Big? Watch I Come In Peace. Matthias makes Dolph look SMALL, for goodness’ sake! THAT’S hard to do. Let’s hear it for the big guy!

word! I love the man. totally disappointed this is the only thread on him. how do you rate his films?

reply

Glad to see you here! I think the best film he’s been in is I Come In Peace, where he and Dolph share the screen, but I have enjoyed him in EVERYTHING I’ve seen him in. He’s a reliable constant in a string of grind house flicks. He’s 1 of my Favorites on my Comcast subscription. That’s how I keep track of him. Like Dolph, Matthias is totally natural and drug-free. Speaking as a gym rat, I TREMENDOUSLY respect that.

can't argue with I Come In Peace. it's one of my all time favorites too. I really liked him In Droid Gunner (even though his character deserved more screen time) and also Digital Man.
my first encounter with him was No Retreat, No Surrender 2 which I saw as a kid and I have been a fan ever since.
didn't know that he is a drug-free athlete. I sure do respect him more as well. :)
btw, I would love to see him in a movie with Dolph once again. I think there was a chemistry.

They should put him into 1 of The Expendables films. Y’know, guys like Matthias and Dolph are evidence that getting old does not have to be the kiss of death. So is Tom Cruise, but I suspect that he spends more on personal trainers, food, medical attention and Lord-knows-what kind of supplements than either Matthias or Dolph earns in a year. Those 2 gentle giants kick ass on the screen, but I sense in reality
they are very nice and easy-going men. I mean, who’s going to fuck with them.

I suspect that Tom Cruise is a jerk.

reply

lol, I personally like Tom Cruise not gonna lie but don't know him enough to really judge.
Dolph has been battling cancer in the last couple of years and I really really hope he recovers, I love the man.
I have recently discovered Mathias Hues' Instagram account and it totally proves your point on him being easy going and cool and kind. I love him even more now.

I do respect Tom Cruise. He has passed the test of time, the toughest test there is. I no longer begrudge him his success. Clint Eastwood believes Tom will be the longest-remembered Movie Star. I know Clint Eastwood knows whereof he speaks.
