"I Love You Goodbye"

Thomas Dolby usually pops up on these "One-Hit Wonder" postings, thanks to "She Blinded Me With Science." However, I've always thought this song was his real masterpiece..."I Love You Goodbye." The 90s had a ton of great songs and this is one of them:

Often what the mainstream regards as a "one hit wonder" is a low key band with a cult following. Not everybody cares about top 40.

For example I love the band Devo. They've made several great and innovative albums. But often I'll hear people say they were a one hit wonder with "Whip It". Nah, they did much better work. "Whip It" is one of their worst songs. Lol.

Yes...Devo was such a great band and a big part of the 80s music scene (They were from Shelby, OH, and grew up not too far from Mansfield, where a good chunk of the movie "The Shawshank Redemption" was filmed). I think Mark Mothersbaugh and Thomas Dolby were very similar in what you mentioned. They were more "artists" that didn't really care about cranking out Top 40 hits. I really admire artists like that...their music seems to hold up very well over time, IMO.

👍

I consider Smart Patrol/Mr DNA to be one of the most epic rock songs ever made.
