It's well known that Gerard Butler is a huge fan of Greggs sausage rolls. On a recent visit back home to watch the rugby team, he was believed to have ordered a "sizable quality" from his local branch, so I'm sure he would fully appreciate this.
Perhaps if they ever make a "The Founder" style biopic of the man who turned Greggs into the fast food giant it is today, Butler will land what for him would be a dream roll... Sorry role!
Well cake in any form is always good, but I want to try the actual sausage rolls. I've read about them in a few different places. I have not been able to find a place that sells them here in the states though 😔😕
Sausage rolls aren't really a thing in the states from what I've read.
I'm sure as a fast food outlet Greggs would work in some US cities. They're fast and cheap like a McDonald's I guess, so I'm not sure why they've never tried a franchise anywhere.
Their sausage rolls in particular are a thing of low quality food beauty!
Here you'll get "artisan" bakers and more up market outlets selling "gourmet" sausage rolls but they're never as good. They're always much thicker in terms of the meat ratio, often the meat is coarser and they try to introduce additional flavouring, e.g. red wine and bacon, or something. But the thinner Greggs ones have just the right pastry to juicy meat ratio.
Like the McDonald's simple cheese burger, I'm sure they'd be a successful, quick takeaway snack if they tried opening an outlet.
Oh dear, I can't eat McDonald's food. It makes me sick. Blech. And you're right, they're not a thing here. I saw some similar sausage rolls on Amazon that were compared to Gregg's but I am really hesitant to buy frozen food online. I did see some sausage rolls here in our grocery store and bought one but it tasted terrible! And like you were explaining, it was more pastry than meat.
Maybe someone will open a franchise here someday. I'd be first in line! 😊
