15th Oscar nomination
This year, Thomas Newman has received his 15th Oscar nomination. He is yet to win. He is nominated for his acclaimed score to the Best Picture frontrunner -- and, based upon awards given out so far, it seems very likely he will lose yet again.
I thought that his score for 1917 is one of his best, and a big part of the reason why the film is as powerful as it is -- admirably unobtrusive, rarely bombastic. And yet Hildur Guðnadóttir's (very good) score for Joker seems the firm favourite to win on her first nomination.
Poor Mr Newman - if he does indeed lose again this year, I do hope he bounces back with a win soon.
