"CLAPTON IS GOD"

Some of you might remember when "CLAPTON IS GOD" started popping up in graffiti all over London circa 1966. Do you think this was a genuine fan reaction or something his record company deliberately unleashed as a form of marketing?

I hate this hero worship of musicians. Yeah, music is nice, transcendental, almost mystical experience for human beings ... but musicians are just people making noises ... none of them are God, though like most successful people they like to act like it and encourage others to believe it.

reply

True

reply

reply

His solo career shattered all illusions of his divinity

Yes, the pink suit/beard combo still gives people nightmares.
