I'm a massive fan of Weir, and it's a shame he felt obliged to retire from moviemaking early on (although I wonder why he didn't 'retreat' to lower-budget Australian movies, such as the films, like Picnic at Hanging Rock and The Cars That Ate Paris, on which he made his name). Still, I don't get the charge levelled at Johnny Depp that he "isn't director-friendly", when he's spent a large chuck of the last thirty plus years collaborating with Tim Burton, one of the most unique and idiosyncratic filmmakers in the business.

Whilst Ethan Hawke was making films with James 'The Purge' DeMonaco, Len 'Total Recall (2012)' Wiseman, and Antoine 'The Magnificent Seven' Fuqua, Depp was working with Burton, Roman Polanski (who, may be a completely reprehensible individual but is, nonetheless, a proper auteur), Terry Gilliam and Michael Mann, so who's to say who is the more 'director-friendly' actor...?
