Really wasn't as bad as Thatcher

*Reagan didn't try to make American's pay a poll tax (a 400 dollar a month tax just for existing)

* USA had nowhere near as high of unemployment as the UK did adjusted per capita under Thatcher

* Poverty in the USA under Reagan was basically only bad (from what I have researched) in inner cities. Under Thatcher entire towns in the north of Britain practically went poor over night as thousands of people lost their jobs when she killed the mining industry.

* There was no riots during Reagan's time in office. Britain saw multiple riots under Thatcher and because of her. See ''The poll tax riot'' (this lead to her having to step down from office).

* Reagan created a functioning middle class. Incomes for middle class people rose under Reagan. In the UK it was the reverse, even doctors complained that their pay was cut because of the Thatcher government.

He also wasn't as bad as the Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney on his policies towards abortion. Reagan has a reputation of rolling back abortion rights but he never tried to re-criminalize abortion as Brian Mulroney attempted to in the late 80's. Mulroney also made ''Zero'' exception for rape in his proposed abortion law for Canadian women.

The only thing I can really stick it to Reagan for was his dealing with AIDS (which he ignored) but even Thatcher did exactly the same thing. She also further tormented the gay community with ''Section 28''.

I can't believe he gets labelled right wing. He was near centrist. Thatcher was much more right wing and her policies were cancerous.

The coal industry was nationalized and Thatcher had the right to shut down mines. Miners had a history of long strikes.

If they were private mines, they would have closed long before. Natural gas was cheaper and cleaner.
