Halle Berry showed her lack of intelligence and grace, as well as a soul-corrupting ego that the former two items can help mask. But observing such similar award disasters as dear Viola Davis, one wonders if there is a problem with the psychiatric health of African American actresses, or if success and wealth means nothing to them because they carry their own weight of imagined historical burdens.

Because they keep acting as if God suddenly beat the South in the Civil War, as if other black people haven't won (in greater proportions than their representation in the population over the last 30 years) and as if Obama never was elected president. Isn't that a GOP game unworthy of empowered, equal people?

Halle wasn't a surprise win. She had won the SAG award a few weeks before and that was a bit of a surprise since Sissy Spacek had been winning the early awards. By the time Oscars came around the whole first ever narrative was in play and she was a shoo in.
