Did Alec deliberately target Kim Basinger for his own gain?

What I mean is that Kim was already a mentally vulnerable woman by the time that she and Alec Baldwin hooked up and later married. Alec by most accounts was emotionally and physically abusive towards her. And of course, Kim fell apart later on in life. So in effect, some men like Alec Baldwin are very astute at targeting vulnerable women.
