why do people STILL hold the Quaid/Crowe thing against her?

Plus, according to celeb reporter friends of mine, the rumor mill said he was widely assumed to be on substances for many of those years, possibly with real addiction problems. The interview shorthands are fascinating -- go back and look at how many he's shaky or fidgeting in.

I have heard the same things, that Dennis Quaid had a pretty significant cocaine addiction for awhile, (enough to require rehab) which contributed not only to the failure of his marriage to Meg Ryan, but also to problems with his brother.

I think the old adage of walking a mile in someone else's shoes comes into play here, and then some.

What some people forget is the Meg Ryan was approaching age 40 which is close to the drop dead date for women in Hollywood. She had had a good run as a RomCom actress, even though there was some evidence that she could act in other genres.

Crowe was just coming off "Gladiator" and was hot, hot, hot, and it was Ryan who requested Crowe to be her co-start in "Proof of Life". The story was that Crowe was having a thing with a girl who had a small part in the film and Ryan got her fired (or her part greatly diminished, clearing the way for Ryan.

To say that there were no repercussions for Crowe is incorrect. I remember clearly that he was passed over for People's "Sexiest Man Alive' during that time when he clearly should have gotten that. The movie bombed and there was a lot of flack. Dennis played the victim and Ryan said nothing, allowing Crowe to be cast as the bad guy. That tale still comes up today.

Crowe never had any intention of moving to Hollywood and never claimed to want to. (The years have proven that he meant what he said.)

It was years later that Ryan finally told in an interview that her marriage to Quaid was effectively over at that time. Crowe was asked about Ryan's comments and he remarked that it was too bad that she hadn't told everyone that at the time.

It's pretty clear that she left Crowe out to dry after creating the mess herself.

Quit quoting false gossip from the trolls of the Datalounge please.

The reality was that Quaid cheated on her throughout their marriage, especially in the late ninties. They were already seperated when she hooked up with Crowe. Quaid pretended to be the victim, but he was the guiltiy party. He did the same thing to 3rd wife Kimberyl, cheated repeatedly untill she had enough and now divorcing him. Now quaid is dating a girl not even half his age who is only with him cause hes rich, she wont care how many time he cheats. Plus he is back on the booze, showed up drunk to serpveral interviews in the past two years. But of course, since hes a guy, people dont seem to care. Sexism at work.

I read the same interviews when she was still popular. She was very dismissive of her girl-next-door image on films, claimed she was nothing like that in real life. She resented that that's what the public wanted to see. She could've overcome the Russell Crowe thing (somehow, don't ask me, I'm not a PR person) but not the terrible cheek implants and the two "I'm a serious Actor" flops.

She's just not a very good actress, she was miscast in Courage Under Fire, totally unbelievable in that role. Sandra Bullock managed to be in successful rom coms when she was past 40. Of course she has a better plastic surgeon. It was unfortunate that Meg did hers when implants were all the rage and fillers were new. It's like she looked at the menu and said, I'll have one of each.

It's really interesting to compare Meg Ryan's career to Sandra Bullock...who had her big scandal, Nazi husband! yet managed to overcome it.
