Was it her talent/persona that did her in?

She was meant to be the next "It Girl" of the late 90s, but she got with Ellen DeGeneres right as her first leading role dropped, and she claims the studios killed her career because of it.

There is very easy explanation why so many unknown young actors are suddenly in your face from everywhere and then they disappear overnight.

That's weird thing Hollywood does. They try to make happen new faces. So they choose random actors who producers think have "it" factor. Some sleep their way up. And they start casting them in everything. And people think: 'Oh, that new actor is everywhere. He/she is so popular". And then after few big projects producers see that it's not happening. Actor did not become popular for moviegoers, they can't carry a movie. So they stop casting them and move to another fresh face.

Very few actually become stars after that. Like Chris Hemsworth was holding on to it and became his own star. Liam Hemsworth could not.

This is just a few that I can name now. Remember how all those actors were everywhere in big projects and then disappeared overnight:

Heather Graham, Leelee Sobieski, Jessica Biel, Jennifer Garner, Taylor Kitch, Thora Birch, Devon Sawa, Bridget Fonda, Christian Slater, Liv Tyler, Tara Reid, Rachel Bilson, Keira Knightley, Josh Hartnett, Sarah Polley, Matthew Lillard, Tia Carrere, Rachael Leigh Cook, Elizabeth Berkley, Elija Wood, Orlando Bloom... And many move

People like Christina Ricci, Alicia Silverstone, Josh Hartnett try to pop up there and there. Now in supporting roles in tv shows mostly.

The point is no one blacklisted Anne Heche. Those actors may even think they were. Because they really don't understand why at one moment they were cast in all those big movies. And then invitations just stop coming. This is Hollywood. You have to either have super charisma to stay popular for many years. Or be very talented and fight for those small supporting roles when more talented and popular actor will carry movie. And you have to constantly fight to get into movie or to show by having good agent and going to every audition.

Some of them it feels like just sit and wait For Next Big Role that never comes.
