Nice to hear stuff that is not ad naseum. I have to catch some of her early Swedish films.

I have never seen any of those films. She looked like she was in her late teens or very early twenties. She was quite striking even then.

They're mostly fairly mediocre, although a couple of the ones she made with the director Gustaf Molander are worth seeing.

Intermezzo was the film that brought her to Hollywood's attention, and they remade it after her arrival in America. A Woman's Face is also decent enough. She gets to be a gangster! Molander seems to have trusted her acting abilities, whereas most of her other early directors seem to have just viewed her as a pretty face and love interest.

Being so young and Stockholm not being Los Angeles, she's also usually presented less glamorously in these films, more of a girl-next-door type, which is probably why Bergman as a gangster stands out.
