After mediocre releases such as Trolls, How to Train Your Dragon endless sequels, another sequel of Kungfu Panda, even more Madagascar sequels and spin-offs, the underwhelming Home, Turbo, and plain bad Monsters vs Aliens...
That's a long strike of creativity deprived animations. Even Universal / Illumination is better now.
I hate to say it, but I'm starting to feel the same way. The Madagascar movies just get worse with every sequel, same with Kung Fu Panda. I haven't seen Trolls or Home, and I don't plan on seeing Boss Baby.
I actually do like How to Train Your Dragon and Monsters vs Aliens, however.
In fact, I like the first How to Train Your Dragon. And the first Kungfu Panda was great! It's just the seemingly endless sequels which I resent, they are as uncreative as Ice Age sequels, Cars sequels and spin-offs (i.e., Planes).
These days, even the almighty Pixar succumbed to making dreaded sequels. Apparently, everything has to be a franchise.
Trolls, Home, Turbo, etc. are just mediocre. The only works DreamWorks did best was the Shrek series.
Even Shrek started to go a bit downhill imo. Aren't they making another one, too, even though they said the fourth one was "The Final Chapter"?
Dreamworks definitely has its ups and downs. I'd say it's still better than Blue Sky or Illumination, though. Not as good as Disney.
I agree. Shrek sequels also went downhill but I think they're still a bit better than other sequels. Maybe because Shrek itself is kind of a parody of classic Disney cartoons.
When they already said it's "the final chapter", but the next installment is "the really really final chapter", or "the chapter before the final chapter", it's kinda funny in ironic way. Like it's mocking the unnecessary sequels they themselves often did.
That said, for me the "Shrek is love, Shrek is life" meme ruins the character forever, lol. I just can unsee it.
I suppose that's a good point. Shrek is all about parodies, haha. Still, it's a bit annoying. I mean, what else can they really do with the story?
Don't get me wrong, I love Shrek and the sequels, even the shorts. I just thought they were done, but apparently they aren't.
