Most Depressing Christmas Song Ever (and it's awesome!)

The Vandals - Hang Myself From the Tree

If you can name something more depressing (other than the pap we get from from people like Taylor Swift and the like), post it...

Joni Mitchell’s “River” is melancholy but I wouldn’t call it depressive.

Can't compete with The Vandals for being outright depressing, but Greg Lake's I Believe in Father Christmas is pretty damn cheerless.

It amuses me that it's generally included on your standard Christmas playlists and compilations alongside all the jaunty ones and you think 'Has no-one listened to these lyrics?'

Love that song.

The line "the Christmas we get, we deserve" is amazing.

But there's still some hope in that song.

reply

There's some hope towards the end, yes, but it's still not exactly uplifting, is it? But it does stand out on those compilations among all the platitudes and niceties of the other big Christmas hits.

I always feel really bad about what Santa’s reindeer did to that guy’s grandma.

Guess you didn't hear the extended version.

She was a serial child murderer when she was in her 20s working as a nurse at the local children's hospital.
