In cinema, are "challenge" and "entertainment" two sides of the same coin.

And that many people watch thought provoking and challenging films to also, perhaps, in their own different sort of way, be entertained and vice versa.

And certain say forms of disturbing material like gory horror movies is basically adult entertainment even if certain other bits of disturbing material, whether (to some) totally offensive that they turn it off or somehow just "not to their personal taste", even if the film may be really good, is just thought-provoking and awareness raising issue and cinematically something to appreciate on that level and has something to tell and reinforce in a visual and audio-oriented sense.

But some people may not like gory horror films either.

But anyways, do we agree, on a basic level, challenge and entertainment, and also other stuff that goes with it like to have thoughts provoked etc, are basically two sides of one big coin, correct? Thanks.

Well storytelling is a journey, and the emotions of the journey, are released by the audience. They call this cathartic.

So if a movie can generate and release emotions, it's a good journey.
