Meanings of "Fried Neckbones and Some Home Fries" song.

Hi, does anyone know or think they know...

What is the overall meaning and message of this classic 60s jazz/pop type of song "Fried Neckbones and Some Home Fries", performed by the late American percussionist and musician William Bobo, who himself passed away at 49 in 1983, and was later covered by Santana and was also used in "Very Bad Things" (1998) film?

It sounds a bit ominous and mysterious and dark but its mostly just about food. Fries of course means chips.

I couldn't help but wonder - is the song, secretly or otherwise, about the dangers of eating at fast food outlets, McDonalds et co (were they around in the 1960s?) where mostly chips are served and consumed? Or is it something else?

Cheers.

P.S. I know we all tried food wise the fries. But has anyone had fried neckbones, what are they like? Cheers.

"Neck bones" were rural-poor food, known only to the kind of people who slaughtered their own animals and used every scrap of edible tissue.

Neck bone meat isn't even sold in grocery stores, so I guess the meaning of the song is about someone hankering for some home food.

Cheers, thank, you're probably right. Have you heard that song before Otter or even now, did you hear it in the film "Very Bad Things" (1998) as well (have you seen it?) and did you also hear the cover of it by Santana?

Also, maybe now they don't. But could it be possible that in the 1960s things were different and that neck bones may well have been at one point readily available and easily accessible to the public?

And maybe that song's dark and ominous atmosphere is just a style and the song is just about food nonetheless?

No, don't know the song, haven't seen the film. Don't remember seeing neck bones as a kid, either, and I was around in the 1960s.

No worries, but have a listen please when you have time via that link I provided in the OP of this thread.

Oh and his actual name is Willie Bobo.
