StoneKeeper's Movie Guessing Game: I recommend THIS Movie #2202 [nyctc7 gets his wish granted with MIRACLE BEACH]
This is kind of a guest pick in that I shared this movie with a friend recently and afterwards was told: "That was a great ______ ______ movie!"
I have a movie in mind and you have to guess which one it is. For each movie you guess, I will give a hint that connects your guess with the movie I have in mind.
For each guess, a connection is posted. Example of connections: Actor, length, genre, aspect ratio, language, country, year, director, actor, writer in common, rating, number of votes. It can even be something like: both movies involve Cabbage Patch Kids. Also, you can use Metascore color or rating, Rotten Tomatoes score, any award wins or nominations in common, same number of words in the title, plot keywords. - The winner can either start a new game or say "pass". In case of a pass, the OP gets to start another one.

Hint 7: Splendor (1999) - IMDB user rating is frolicking in the 5s.

"That was a great Valentine's Day movie!" said my friend after viewing Miracle Beach (1992), plucked out this round by nyctc7.
This bizarre hybrid of '80s boner comedy and '50s/'60s beach party flick stars one of the most unappealing leads in Dean Cameron as a hapless slacker who stumbles across a magic lamp containing Ami Dolenz as a perky positive genie who grants his every wish, starting with ugly sweaters and zoot suits. There's a lot going on here, from the cocaine fueled story logic to the antics from veteran performers Pat Morita and Martin Mull (who I bet were both given ample opportunity to improv).
Here are some observations I noted throughout the picture:
-A character is about to be set on fire one moment before the film cuts to that same character enjoying a beach party.
-Hot dog vendors make for natural volleyball athletes and dancers.
-Why did the founder of Hawaiian Tropic host a beauty contest on the beach with no mention of his brand?
-At least 85% of this movie takes place on the beach.
-The main character's buddies both look like they're desperate to do drugs as soon as a scene wraps.
-More commentary on world politics through the lens of a beauty pageant than I was expecting.
-There are a lot of walk-on roles that are obviously filled by friends/relatives of the producers and/or investors.
All that to say, there's really something magical about Miracle Beach.
