There was a movie I remember seeing commercials for as a kid

This may be a shot in the dark, but I wonder what the name of the movie was. I remember the general idea. It was what I assume were rockers going to college. One commercial had a guy showing up late to class and his friends saying something to the effect of:

"He got hit by a car"

the professor asking:

"Is he ok?"


and then them replying back loudly:

"HE GOT HIT BY A CAR!"

I always wanted to see it but was too young to go to the theater. Any ideas what this movie was. It was either late 90's or early 00's.
