Bad Director Commentaries

Not a bad movie necessarily or bad commentary, but commentaries by bad directors. Listening to a total hack give justifications for terrible choices is quite hilarious. Rob Zombie is a director? That was going to be a statement but it felt right just ending it right there with a question mark. His commentary for Halloween 2007 is like a standup comedy routine.

Oh c'mon now Pete!
The Devil's Rejects and The Lords of Salem were great horror movies

They really were great horror movies? Hmm, can't seem to keep that question mark under control.

I like Rob as a character, and mildly as a musician, but I can't watch his movies. He just mashes up a bunch of stuff that he likes, but it never makes any sense. He doesn't seem to have any respect for or understanding of the stuff he's ripping off in a way that someone like Quentin Tarantino does. Quentin basically does what I accuse Rob of doing, but QT understands why and how each element works and effortlessly constructs these narratives that both honor the original artist, but make something new and whole that's distinctively his. Rob Zombie's movies are just really long music videos. I don't really find any of his movies that scary.

Ok , agree to disagree
I think Zombie is a really effective director

I've listened to several Uwe Boll commentaries, and they are all hilarious.

Oh that's perfect, of course he's a commentary guy. Where should I begin, House of the Dead?

reply

That would be a good start. Heart of America might be a solid starting point, too. My favorites are Alone in the Dark and Bloodrayne.

If M. Night Shyamalan has ever done a commentary, it would be comedy gold!
