that looks interesting.
where did you catch it? is it streaming anywhere?

reply

It is very interesting. It's not streaming anywhere. I had a coupon for a free digital rental from the Cineplex store so I rented it. It is currently available to rent from Cinexplex, itunes, Amazon and Google play.

reply

i actually have enough cineplex points for a rental, so i might give it a watch. thanks!

you will die at twenty (2019) 3/5

mystic decrees that a newborn will die when he turns 20, & he & his mother live accordingly.

my first sudanese film. i don't approach film watching in a 'check the box' way, or at least i hope i don't, but i am trying to catch films from countries whose movies i haven't seen at all. so that's one down.

certainly a very interesting idea, and scattered moments of this really worked. but as a narrative film that told a story from beginning to end, i found it disappointingly trite and not all that compelling, unfortunately. i'm a simple person, and i judge films by very simple rules. do i wanna watch it, or do i feel like browsing through twitter? i really felt like browsing through twitter while this was playing, for the most part.

reply

It sounds like an interesting idea. I haven't seen anything from Sudan yet.

reply

it's on criterion if you want to check it out. it got really strong reviews (77% on metacritic) so maybe you'll dig it more than i did.

The White Tiger (2021)

It’s an extremely well-made rags to riches saga about a young Indian man from a poor village who becomes a driver for a wealthy family before becoming a successful entrepreneur in his own right. It’s flawlessly acted, funny, compelling and ultimately shocking in its final reveal and a scathing commentary on the class system in India.

I’m not usually fond of comparing films to other films in reviews, but if you think Slumdog Millionaire meets Parasite then you know exactly what you’re in for here.

Ultra obscure giallo staring genre regulars Ivan Rassimov and Luigi Pistilli.

I haven't heard of that one before. It sounds interesting. I'll have to check it out.
