Are there less serial killers these days?

Whenever I watch crime documentaries they seem to be from the 80s and earlier. If they have gone down, I wonder what we could attribute this to? Could video games (usually blamed for training violent people) actually be therapeutic? Quenching the blood lust of some?

I read an article awhile back that one researcher believes there might be as many as 2,000 serial killers
in the US alone.
This is based on statistics and the fact that there are well over a thousand unsolved murders that
are all connected to other murders by DNA.

I love how ancestral DNA is catching people.

We hear about it all the time.

Finding killers decades later.
I certainly don't think there are 2,000 serial killers out there but I do think
It's more than what they say it is.

Once they have your DNA they have it.
There was another story about a guy who got arrested for a murder.
Not because of his DNA but because of a family members.

Why go through all that hard work when you can get a semi-automatic and get instant gratification.

Thanks for the article. I do think that keeping people occupied and entertained via video games (and maybe even porn) has meant that men don’t have to turn to murders and rapes like they once did. Maybe even medication for ADHD during puberty helps to dull the sharp edges of some people. Or anti depressants, which removes the highs and lows of the emotional spectrum.

reply

I don't know. Depends on the everyday news it's seems so many violent crime is happens.

The strides in technology and criminology effectively reduced the prolificity of serial killers they usually get caught early on. Also the increased likelihood that they will get caught serves as a halting factor to begin with. Instead we have an increased frequency in the one time mass murder incidents.

Being shot and surviving can be s nightmare, with some needing dozens of surgeries throughout their lives.
