Highest rated films

I've been watching the highest rated films (in order for the most part) Usually I agree with the ratings but sometimes I don't. What do you think of these movies? Have you seen them all? If you haven't seen some of them... why haven't you watched them yet?

I'll start with the top ten (with my rating next to the title) Feel free to criticize my ratings... or put your own... if your argument is convincing... maybe I'll even change it.

If The Departed were an original and not a remake, I would've given it 10. I need to rewatch Whiplash... it's directed well and I enjoyed it but for some reason I still wanted more. The Dark Knight Rises is the weakest of the trilogy but still an enjoyable movie. I do like Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway, so maybe that's why I enjoyed it more than most. I didn't care for the supernatural element of The Green Mile... I like Sci-Fi Fantasy and I like Dramas but this combination felt weird for some reason. Saw the Lion King as an adult so maybe that's why I didn't love it like some of my younger friends do. Apocalypse Now is a great film but at certain points it got a bit long and indulgent. Back to the Future feels old and cheesy now but I loved it when it came out, so I'd still give it a 10. I'm not sure whether to give Psycho a 10... it kind of dragged in the middle so I'm gonna give it a 9 for now. Memento is an amazing indie film... think it says important things about the subjective nature of history. American History X also terrific, one of the best films on racism along with Do the Right Thing.

Terminator 2 was saddled with a lot of bad acting but the action and FX was so well done that I still gave it a nine. Raiders is probably dated today, but it was thrilling to watch when it first came out. The Pianist isn't as good as Schindler's List imo but it still was a powerful drama. The Lives of Others is an incredible film... nothing bad to say about it. Seek it out if you like foreign films. I gave Casablanca a 10 because I loved it when I first saw it and it helped to spark my love of classic film but I probably wouldn't give that now. Still a great film though. Dr. Strangelove is a brilliant satire, way ahead of its time and you should recommend it to people who think Kubrick is humorless. Rear Window is one of the great Hitchcock films which of course means it's one of the best period, Great performance from Stewart too. Grave of the Fireflies is a very good anime but it's pretty dark. I love Cinema Paradiso, but I probably gave it an extra point for the score. Sunset Blvd is also genius... another film like Strangelove that wouldn't be out of place today.

All those movies are the best Hollywood has to offer, so this thread is kind of unoriginal.
