All these new IMDB replacements have problems.

The Facebook group = sh1t
The Reddit Group = Shit
imdb2 = The most active but no boards for individual films which is the most important thing for a replacemeent to have..
imdbarchive.com = The best archive but no members.
MovieChat = Somewhere in between imdb2 & imdbarchive.com... incomplete archive but still pretty good & does have members.

Then there is TMDB as well that has loads of members but no archived posts.

What we need for these replacements is an App like the one IMDB had.

The first one to develop a working App to use on phones and tablets will have a major advantage.

reply

I believe Jim is capable of doing that

reply

That is a good idea & an extension like this: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/imdb-archive-extension/celejjkkiipeokbgcgakogmmfbmonmem would be very useful as well.

reply

yes indeed

This website will not be so bad if we create new threads on message boards and the older ones are deleted. Sooner or later, the message boards will rebuild and that is all we really need. The features many would be looking for is a trivia or constant addition of new movies and shows, which IMDb has because professionals know that that is the site that will publicize them.

I agree, we need to keep the older threads because there can be important information to pass along or learn from.

reply

Well, I would think there would be tons of clutter. I remember IMDb use to take off threads that were older than 1-2 years. Maybe new users could somehow elaborate on older threads' subjects, so that way that thread would be active?

We used to read very old threads and posts from IMDb movies, especially the unknown obscure movies. Jim needs to fully archive IMDb posts like https://www.imdbarchive.com/

reply

Absolutely, I gleaned useful information on older movies and actors on threads going back 10 years or more. They were not deleted.

reply

If Jim manages to keep all of those posts here (he says he is going to eventually), then we'll be here. His updating the formatting and the layouts. Just a few more adjustments.

reply

To be honest I don't see any reason to delete old threads... the entire point was to save them.

You post has given me a idea though, in the same way members can edit on imdb & TMDB it would be good if MovieChat could edit on MovieChat but just to add links to the films IMDB page, letterboxd & TMDB etc. so people can move quickly around sites for more information.

reply

Clutter.

We may have like 5 pages and counting of threads because we have too many old ones from years ago and the previous usernames cannot respond to them because IMDb is gone. :/

Of course, if Jim enables us to reuse screennames, it could bring them back to life.

reply

Your website imdb2 is clutter moron

reply
